Spectacular Crash Marks Arrival Of New Year In Pacheco

A driver left Pacheco Boulevard at high speed as 2025 approached, sheared a high pressure hydrant, flew at least 300 feet through the air and landed more than 30 feet down in The Grayson Creek Flood Control Channel overnight.

Firefighters rescued the driver – in critical condition but alive – and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

Crews were also left to tame a 75-100 foot water fountain flooded some nearby businesses. The crash was located in the 5700 Block of Pacheco Blvd, Pacheco at 11:21 PM NYE.

    It seems the firefighters tried to close the fire hydrant line, why does it take so long to find the right valve? Can any one help me understand?
