UPDATE: The lone fatality in this case was identified by friends and family as Alina Safi, 16, a student at Mt. Diablo High School in Concord.

A 16-year-old girl was killed and five others suffered significant injuries in a grinding collision at Ygnacio Valley Road east of Oak Grove with one of three vehicles – believed to be an electric vehicle – bursting into flames and igniting a secondary vehicle at the scene.

Every available resource was dedicated to this crash, reported at 4:40pm with this site receiving frantic calls and text messages from passersby. One person was reportedly trapped in the wreckage of one of the vehicles.

An air ambulance landed on Ygnacio Valley Road itself to expedite evacuation of casualties, transporting a teen victim to hospital in Oakland.

Initial reports are that a 14-year-old was transported by air to Children Hospital in Oakland, 4 others were taken by ground ambulance to John Muir and 1 person, the 16-year-old, declared dead at the scene.

By late Saturday word had been received that the five other people injured in this crash were all in stable condition.

Police were aware of social media posts depicting a gray Prius witnesses said was driving erratically on Ygnacio Valley Road prior to the crash.

  1. 1 14 year old by air to Children Hospital in Oakland, 4 by ground ambulance to John Muir and 1 fatality at the scene.

      • I saw below everyone from the jeep is thankfully doing okay, does anyone have an update on the young girl we pulled out the driver seat and the young girl we got from the back of the prius?

        • Hey, GS, thanks for checking in. We’d be interested in a firsthand account of your involvement if interested in sharing with us. Offline and for background, for our increased understanding of this crash. Contact us at jd@news24-680 DOT COM… if interested. And thanks for helping out that day..

        • Thank you very much for your help sir , I am related to one of those girls , she is in stable condition thanks to your help .

But we really love to hear what really happens if you don’t mind sharing with us .

        • They are all my relatives and the girl in the back seat is my cousin. The 14 years old have several injuries unfortunately lost one of her hand, the 18 years old in the back seat is doing better her hand broke she is not mentally stable for now

  2. Do we happen to know if one of the vehicles involved may have been a gray Prius…young girl driving…lots of kids/friends in the car with her?

    • Yes, it was a gray Prius. I believe there were three in that vehicle. I helped with the 14 year old girl, but never saw the other two who had been in the car with her.

      • Prayers for all families involved. Prayers to you also as this probably also may have a heavy impact on you as well. I hope you too heal from your experience yesterday. You did a great deed. The world needs you, add that to the many reasons you were put on this Earth.

        • Wow! That was a very strong opinion for something that was totally incorrect. Why come off so strongly on something so random. The door and door handle looks like a Prius prime but even for someone that know cars I can admit that I can be wrong with this mangle.

  3. Did anyone else see the gray pitbull running down the street after the crash happened and know if it was rescued and safe? I drove past the crash minutes after it happened and saw the dog running, I think it belonged to the people in the white Jeep but I’m not sure.

    • Yes. We saw the dog and pulled over to try to grab it, but he ran into the opposing traffic toward the Whole Foods lot and we couldn’t get him. He was dragging his leash. We assumed he had escaped from one of the cars involved. He was almost hit by a car heading east on YVR. Luckily he escaped that situation but I have been worried about him ever since.

      • He belonged to the driver of the jeep he was turned in to a hospital and safely reunited with the owners family we greatly appreciate whole ever turned him him she was very worried about him more than herself. She also wants to thank the good samaritans that helped her she’s forever grateful

    • The dog is fine:) thank you so much for your concern! Someone took him to the nearest vet & he was discharged later in the evening. Everyone in the Jeep is OK.

  4. Can someone help me and tell me how did this accident happened ? I am related to one of the people in this accident . Thanks

  5. My heart aches for her friends and family. What school did she go to? Does anyone know how the passengers of the Prius are doing?
