A carload of suspected burglars led police on a twisty pursuit from Moraga into Lafayette and beyond early Monday morning – adding to a string of potential charges when they began to jettison items inside their car and allegedly threw some of them at police.
Things apparently kicked off at around 2 a.m. Monday when a white Chevy Suburban attempted to elude officers after a suspected auto burglary – speeding out of town into Lafayette via snaky Moraga Road at speeds estimated to be as high as 70mph.
The chase amped up when the car’s occupants began throwing an odd mix of items out of the car as they attempted to reach eastbound Highway 24 and – eventually – northbound I-680.
Among the items reportedly thrown onto city streets were a number of personal items, luggage, a bucket and a headrest from the vehicle’s interior – at least one of which was allegedly thrown directly at one of the pursuing police cars.
Speeds estimated at 100mph were reached as the chase continued northward on I-680 and then into East County, where the pursuit was believed to have been terminated after officers lost sight of the fleeing car.
It is unfortunate that these incidents of roaming burglary crews in our neighborhoods are occurring with increased frequency. Hope pursuing LEOs did not sustain any injuries as the result of jettisoned booty. With no intention of diminishing the gravity of the criminal behavior, the mental image conjured from news article contents brought back memories of past episodes of I Love Lucy and/or Wacky Racers…
Hey, Jeff… saw a crew jettison about $10,000 in bait money on the Golden Gate Bridge once… now that was Wacky!
At a sometimes 70 mph on that snaky road, it is amazing they missed all of the power poles, not to mention the severe drop off the right shoulder.
Agreed. We were holding our breath…
ITWWOT. Too bad the pursuit was terminated.

@Jeff I thought you prevented all of this with your amazing crime sniffing nose!
I only take care of the problems in front of me or less then ten minutes away.

Don’t know why they got away. Hard to outrun a radio call to other police. Should have been caught and arrested. Not a good ending.
Got your alert before we heard the sirens! Thanks!
Thanks for Flashing!
I don’t doubt you but I slept through this one.
We’re still getting cruised??
Yes, we are.
At 230 am they were on Avora driving past The Bay Church. I was on my way to work when I was passed by a speeding white suburban and a single Highway Patrol car. When I got to the bottom of the hill near the Chevron there was a single Moraga police vehicle.
That’s about right, Joe… though the line of police cars grew when they hit the freeway!
