Hunt For Stolen Truck Ends With Crash In Canyon Tuesday

The driver of a stolen pickup truck sought by Moraga police Tuesday suddenly fled into Canyon, colliding with two other cars and pinching off access to the leafy community for several hours.

The vehicle, reported to be a Toyota Tacoma, was not being actively pursued by police – alerted to its presence in the area by an ALPR license plate reader – when the unidentified driver suddenly made a break for Canyon Bridge, colliding with other vehicles near the Valle Vista Staging Area until he crashed on Canyon Road approaching Pinehurst Road.

Police arrived on scene and took the pickup’s driver into custody after he initially refused to obey officers’ orders. He was taken to the hospital for observation. Reports that another person was also injured and taken to hospital could not be immediately confirmed.

Access to the area was blocked for several hours as workers and police sought to clear the roadway.
