For reasons still unexplained the driver of the car police had stopped sped away despite being Tased by officers, eventually crashing near I-680 and Sycamore Valley Road.

One other police car apparently rolled during the chase, which reached speeds of about 50 mph, ending up on its roof at San Ramon Valley Boulevard and Oak Court. The officer in that car was briefly trapped in his car but was not believed to be injured.
