Police in Danville and San Ramon are following up a reported theft of personal property from San Ramon Regional Medical Center after two people suspected in that crime led officers on a high-speed chase that ending in a rollover crash in Alamo Thursday.

Two people, a man and a woman, are in custody – one following a brief foot chase that ended in the yard of a home at 1470 Livorna Road.

Danville Police Chief Allan Shields said the pair, identified as:

Michael Gutierrez, 36, Union City
Carolina McDaniel, 31, Hayward

…were arrested with the help of officers from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. Witnesses said McDaniel, arrested while wearing hospital scrubs, entered the hospital and allegedly stole a purse.

Police said the pair fled in a Lexus with paper plates, a vehicle that was observed minutes later in Danville.

Gutierrez was arrested for felony evading with a vehicle, felony hit and run, and felony probation violation.  He was injured in the accident and will be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility following treatment.  McDaniel was detained by Danville Police and released to the San Ramon Police Department.

A driver in one of the vehicles struck was injured in the crash and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Guess the scrubs camouflage didn’t work. Stealing from a hospital is pretty freaking low isn’t it?

    • NEWS24-680 on Mar 5, 2020 at 4:24 pm

      Yes.

    • Niccole on Mar 6, 2020 at 6:02 pm

She got caught because there are cameras outside the locker room where she stoled a purse. She came back two days later to same locker room with a bolt cutter and broke into several lockers to get more purses and an employee came in a recognized her from a picture that was passed around. She got greedy and dumb.

I’m sorry to sound so harsh, but I am really fed up with these lowlifes coming into our area to do harm. I wish they’d stay in their own low areas! Sorry, but I’m getting mad over this trend!

    • Greg T on Mar 5, 2020 at 5:19 pm

What I mean, is just look at who is doing all the crimes in the Lamorinda, Alamo and Danville areas, and notice the ‘jewel’ of cities that they come from. I wish they’d stay home! You can tell I’m angry, not only because I am mad at this trend, but because I was closely affected by this mornings incident in Alamo.

      • Onikuza on Mar 6, 2020 at 1:40 pm

Hmmmm. I don’t know. The guy who robbed my local bank was from Orinda.

      • Niccole on Mar 6, 2020 at 5:54 pm

How were you affected? Was your purse stolen out of the women’s locker room?

        • Barbie on Mar 6, 2020 at 9:21 pm

No, but this accident happened right when my elderly in-laws were coming down the road. Almost hit them. So yes, this type of crime hurts innocent people. Also, its not just this incident: homes are being broken into, a group of thugs walk into CVS and fill up bags and walk out, car windows broken, home invasions where a 90 woman was beaten up. They know they won’t see jail time. Being that we have weak, useless lawmakers and idiot bleeding hearts, who favor criminals, it’s time to take back our neighborhoods.

Why are you sorry? It’s a fact. It’s open season on certain communities in Co Co Co and what’s to stop them? There is no accountability and no follow up for us taxpayers. Betcha you can’t find out when she goes to trial bc she won’t. Catch and Release – repeal Prop 47 and Prop 57.

McDaniel released to San Ramon police where she was what?!? Released?

    • NEWS24-680 on Mar 5, 2020 at 6:51 pm

We don’t believe so but haven’t heard back from SRPD to say for sure…

      • Shelly on Mar 5, 2020 at 6:55 pm

Thanks guys you are beyond awesome. Betcha won’t hear back either, sadly.

  9. T Davis on Mar 5, 2020 at 7:05 pm

Should have given them the Covid samples.

  10. Danielle on Mar 5, 2020 at 7:17 pm

Since it doesn’t say that McDaniel was booked in jail like the other suspect, I believe she was released to SRPD, and I believe they released her. Catch and release is the CA way thanks to liberals and their soft on crime pathetic approach.

    • Shelly on Mar 5, 2020 at 8:08 pm

Exactly. Things need to change. There is a reason why we can’t find out what happens when they are Caught; they are released, to pillage again, and I can’t imagine who is blocking that data. It’s GOT to stop. Identifying the backers of the legislation that got us here (read: Democrats who couldn’t raise taxes and get re-elected but needed something to cut). We were fooled. I know I’m partisan but I pretty much hate the other side too. It’s US against them. You want a safer community? We need to organize and it’s OUR agenda, not the criminals, not the junkies.

McDaniel is currently being held at West County with several charges. She is not currently bondable.

  11. Ortiz on Mar 6, 2020 at 12:29 pm

Your all correct to feel the way you do, but Mc Daniels was booked with a $60,000.00 bond and Gutierrez has no bond.

It’s my brother and he will be changed and spend time in jail. He has some demons he is dealing with and hopefully one day god will cure him and he can be a good father, brother and son we know he can be. The female will most likely not be changed looking at my brother background they will put all blame on him. Sorry for the trouble he caused just grateful that nobody was seriously injured. Insurance will cover the damage. Screw the person that said give them the covid 19 samples. Go to hell.

    • E Olsen on Mar 6, 2020 at 1:42 pm

What kind of demons could drive you to steal from hospitals and lead police on a hundred mile an hour chase through residential streets?

      • Niccole on Mar 6, 2020 at 5:44 pm

What kind of demons? Omg! Is that a real question? Lol

        • Tony Anzilotti on Mar 6, 2020 at 7:01 pm

Fair question actually. I’d be interested in knowing what drives two people to rob a hospital locker room, then come back and do it again, driving at insane speeds and hurting innocent people. Yea, I’d like to know what kind of demons would make someone act like that. We’re left to assume it is drugs.

    • Niccole on Mar 6, 2020 at 5:51 pm

I doubt your brother will take all the blame because Carolina (?) is the one who was caught on camera stealing on Monday and she came back again yesterday, Weds with a bolt cutter and cut off locks in the women’s locker room to steal more purses.
She got greedy and got caught. She took off to meet your brother in the car. She is so busted.

  13. Michelle on Mar 6, 2020 at 2:42 pm

You have obviously never dealt with them in your precious life. Good for you. But sucks for people who do.

    • Charles Trainor on Mar 6, 2020 at 7:03 pm

Well sure but I’ve been out of work before and had a hard time making my rent but I never felt the need to rob people or hurt them while trying to keep my ass out of jail.

  14. Barbie on Mar 6, 2020 at 9:13 pm

    Michelle,
At one time my brother had his “demons.” Drugs, stealing, prison, kept at it. Finally, my mother quit bailing him out. We all moved and did not leave forwarding addresses. He had to pull himself up by his own bootstraps and today is clean, owns his own business and is a joy to be around. Sometimes you gotta get tough.
