Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters answered calls for assistance from neighbors in the area of 21 Old Rodgers Ranch Court in Pleasant Hill Sunday, ultimately finding a blaze which caused heavy damage to two homes and grew to 3-alarms before it could be brought under control.

There was no immediate word as to monetary damage or to cause as investigators were still sifting through the scene of the blaze at 19 and 21 Old Rodgers Ranch Ct.

Brisk winds also reportedly hampered efforts to fight the fire, which caused heavy damage to the two homes. Reports that an explosion was heard as the fire broke out could not be immediately confirmed.

Neighbors said they observed fire in the upper levels of the homes and that the roofs on both residences appeared to have collapsed.

There were no immediate reports of injury or on the whereabouts of the homeowners. One firefighter was believed to have been treated at the scene for a minor ankle injury.
