A lone cyclist was struck and killed by a car in the 1800 block of N. Main Street in Walnut Creek early Wednesday morning – the driver remaining on the scene and believed to be cooperating with authorities.

Neighbors reported hearing the sound of an impact at about 5:43 a.m. and saw the man down in the roadway, his bicycle a short distance away.

The driver of a black sedan stopped, their car later towed off for inspection by police.

Family members identified the deceased as Carlos Ivan Aguilar Reyes, 49, of Oakland. Reyes, known as “Calin,” was on his way to work in Walnut Creek when he was struck, his family said.

A GoFundMe appeal has been established in his name.

  1. Bike is pretty far from the street. Guessing vehicle was exceeding speed limit. Sad. No bike lane on that stretch of road.
