CHP Investigating Fatality On SR-242 Thursday

Investigators responded to reports of a possible pedestrian down in the southbound lanes of SR-242 just north of Gregory Boulevard Thursday, recovering a body at that location.

Officers are attempting to determine how the person came to be on the freeway. The discovery was made at approximately 11:33 p.m. and officers were reportedly talking with a motorist who reported striking something on the freeway at that time.

It was not immediately known if the person fell or was ejected from a passing vehicle or was walking on the freeway at the time they were struck. Traffic through the area was stopped at 11:37 p.m.

UPDATE – The Contra Costa Office of the CHP issued this statement Friday:

Last night (6/1/23) at about 11:30pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on southbound SR-242, south of Clayton Road. At the time of the crash, a female pedestrian was in the lanes of traffic of southbound SR-242. A grey Lexus IS-250 was traveling southbound and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Lexus was not injured and the passenger of the Lexus suffered minor injuries.
