A local attorney was killed and his wife injured when a tree fell on their Tesla at 1010 Stanley Dollar in Rossmoor at the height of Tuesday’s storm.
The eucalyptus came down at approximately 7 p.m. in an area between the gated community’s event center and popular Creekside Grill, crushing a white Tesla with Thomas Huster and his wife inside. The couple had just returned from dinner out when the tree came down.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews labored to extricate the pair but Huster, 79, was declared deceased at the scene. His wife was treated for a minor head injury.
The fatality was the first storm-related death recorded in the East Bay as Tuesday’s weather event swept through, dropping trees and power lines across the 24/680. Thousands of households remained without power going into Tuesday evening.
