Suspected Getaway Vehicle Found Abandoned In Lafayette Saturday

Neighbors in Lafayette may have noticed some police activity on Pleasant Hill Road early Saturday.

Police in Concord are apparently trying to figure it all out but things appear to have started when a witness spotted a crew of suspected burglars attempting to rob a Concord liquor store.

The incident was reported at approximately 1:45 a.m. at Dirt Cheap Liquors, 3608 Willow Pass Road, when passersby spotted at least one man maneuvering a ladder in place at the business and removing something from the store.

The witnesses attempted to keep pace with the burglars as they fled toward southbound I680 in a white truck and a blue Honda, but said someone in the Honda opened fire on them as the group fled toward Highway 242. No one was believed hit, and it was not immediately known how many shots were fired or if any struck the trailing vehicle.

Witnesses told police they followed as the truck and trailing Honda turned off the freeway and stopped in the area of Acalanes High School, where the occupants of the truck abandoned the vehicle and reportedly got into the Honda. The white truck was subsequently found, abandoned, at the Shell station on Pleasant Hill Road.

The Honda was reportedly last seen on Deer Hill Road, heading toward downtown Lafayette.
