As we Flashed yesterday while the rescue effort was underway, a motorist was killed when her SUV rolled off the south face of Mount Diablo below Summit Road, ejecting her during its 200ft plunge down the mountainside.

Coroner’s officials identified the victim Monday as Julie Watson, 72, of Danville.

Park officials said Watson was apparently attempting to park her car on the side of the road when it lost hold and plunged down the slope.

Rangers were at the site today to work out a way to retrieve the vehicle.

The accident was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday, with park rangers and San Ramon Valley firefighters attempting to reach the scene. The woman, who has not yet been identified, was located and brought to a level area by helicopter.

She was declared deceased on the mountain.
