“We Just Got Hit By A Sharp Earthquake!” – San Ramon Valley Rattled By 4.3 Shaker

SHARE

People have been understandably edgy following recent seismic activity in Southern California, with scientists upping the percentage of a temblor hitting here in the North to near certainty – and Ma Nature obliged us with a 4.3 eye-opener epicentered near Blackhawk at 1:11 p.m.

The shaker, noted by locals and first responders who immediately initiated emergency protocols, was followed by a smaller 3.5 magnitude quake at 1:24 p.m.

Amateur seismologists noted a similarly sized 4.5 magnitude quake which struck at 1:15 p.m. in quake-addled Ridgecrest, Calif.

No immediate ties have been drawn between the Northern and Southern shakers.

Although emergency protocols were put into effect after the quake was noted locally, there were no immediate reports of damage or injury. There was, however, an apparent rush by some to buy emergency rations and other necessities experts have said will be needed should the Big One arrive.

  1. Our building’s floors and walls are even more warped than they were previously. The downslope foundation failed some time ago (before we moved in), and the floor, window sills, and load bearing wall have become increasingly bowed in recent years. After today’s tremor, the kitchen floor covering (amateur installation and cheap material) is torn at the peak of the bow near the center of the room.

    Glad we rent.

  2. Didn’t feel a thing and really feel I missed out. When I got to the store everyone was talking about the big quake and I joined right in even though I didn’t know we’d had one! I didn’t want to appear insensitive!

  3. Very sharp jolt. Felt the first one but wasn’t sure about the second because my heart was pounding so much.

  4. Waaaay different than past quakes. It was a real jolt – not like the little “cluster” quakes we have been getting.

  5. “Sharp” yes, but even with the heavy overtones of charred oak and tannin, I am sensing a hint of sandalwood and fragments of designer block glass. I don’t sense any escaping mercaptan. I would put this away for another year or two.
