A former Dublin swim instructor was arrested after the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the Contra Costa D.A.’s Office recently received information he possessed and shared child pornography.

Detectives launched an investigation and on July 3, 2019, executed search warrants at residences in Danville and Dublin, subsequently locating pornography on electronic devices belonging to 18-year-old James Happ of Dublin.

Happ was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility for possession of child
pornography with bail set at $100,000 bail. He has since bailed out.

Dublin police initiated a separate investigation of Happ after learning that he worked as a swimming instructor at The Wave water park in Dublin. Happ was terminated from that position the day of his arrest.

Anyone with any information on this case is asked to contact the Office of the Sheriff Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600. For any tips, email: tips@so.cccounty.us or call (866) 846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.

  1. Seems a little young to be charged with something like this. It has to have lasting repercussions I would think. And is it just me or does it seem that all these people seem to be teachers or coaches or doctors or priests – people in positions of power over others?

    • Sadly, pedophiles will seek positions where they have easy access to children. 18 does seem young. I guess he was caught earlier than most.
