Richmond Man Murdered In El Sobrante Saturday; Investigation Underway

Detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are investigating a homicide that occurred in El Sobrante early Saturday morning.

A sheriff’s office sergeant discovered an injured man lying in the roadway in the area of Appian Way and Garden Lane in El Sobrante at 2:11 a.m. that morning. The officer summoned medical aid and administered life saving measures including CPR but the man was later pronounced deceased.

He was later identified as 28-year-old William Sims of Richmond with his cause of death given as a gunshot wound. Sims was a local musician and worked in retail. He had no known gang ties and no criminal history, according to investigators.

On the night of his death, Detectives believe Sims was at the Capri Club on the 4100 block of Appian Way when an altercation occurred of some type. Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying witnesses to the time leading up to Sims’ death, and anyone who saw him at and around the Capri Club early Saturday morning.
