“Panic At The Car Wash… And Then At The Yard Sale… Not Sure About The Disco…”

You can’t let your guard down anywhere anymore, even at the car wash. The owner of a formerly nice Mercedes EQE was having their vehicle detailed at Autopia on N. Main in Walnut Creek when some slippery customer slipped into his vehicle and drove off with it. Yes… from the car wash.

The car’s owner, unwilling to give up on their car, initiated a geo locator to track the vehicle while dialing up police – who obliged by descending on the last given location. Everyone – police and car owner – were delighted when police received reports of the target vehicle doing donuts in the area, giving even more police time to flood the area and eventually engage the startled car thief in a brief pursuit.

Unfortunately for the thief, he mushroomed a tire and slammed into a few parked cars before coming to a halt before the proprietors of a family yard sale – who must have thought they’d be doing land office business when a convoy of police cars rolled up to take the thief into custody.

We don’t know if they took a moment to make an offer on the Mickey Mouse cookie jar or Cats Are People Too oven mitts – but the bracelets went on our boy and the flatbed was called for what was left of the Benz.

    What a yutz!

Stockades or tar-and-feather humiliation was the ideal addendum to incarceration and restitution for precisely these sort of antisocial antics.

That joyriding moron ruined a fine spring day for at least a handful of people who were minding their own damn business and menaced many others with his recklessness.

Shame, punishment AND compensation are all necessary for deterrence.
