Re: Support for the Appointment of Pam Davis as Principal of Tice Creek School

I am writing to express my strong support for the appointment of Pam Davis as Principal of Tice Creek School.

My family has been part of Tice Creek since the day it opened. When the school first welcomed students, our daughter transferred from Murwood and went on to be part of its very first graduating eighth-grade class. Our middle son had Pam Davis as his kindergarten teacher, completed all of K–8 at Tice, and is now a rising junior at Las Lomas High School. Our youngest son will enter sixth grade at Tice this fall. Across three children, our family has lived nearly the entire life of this school. Pam Davis has been part of the Tice story from the very beginning, as a member of the founding faculty who gave Tice Creek its character.

I had the privilege of working alongside Pam when I was a member of the school’s founding PTA, and again on the committee that helped shape the plans for the middle school buildout. Through my prior service on the District’s Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee and during my service on the City Council and as Mayor of Walnut Creek, I came to understand how much this community asks of its schools — and how rare it is to find a leader who meets that standard fully. Pam does.

Pam is an extraordinary person who cares deeply about our children. I have full confidence in the Superintendent’s recommendation and believe the families at Tice Creek will be fortunate to have her leadership.

While I recognize that transitions can be challenging, this is an exceptional opportunity. Tice Creek is gaining a principal who helped build the school from the inside and returns with profound experience and devotion.

I hope we will all give Pam Davis a warm welcome back to our school.

Thank you for your service to our children, and for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Kristina Lawson/Walnut Creek

I think the biggest issue is Pam Davis wasn’t interviewed at all. She was on the panel of applicants herself. She should have applied like the others. I also don’t agree with hiring of a new principal right before we get a new superintendent. Jon should be the one picking this candidate not the outgoing superintendent. It’s all a conflict of interest.
The second reason many are concerned is she has no prior experience or finished credentials for this role. Teaching kindergarten and being an administrator for a school with elementary, middle, and SDC is not the same. Of course we all love our kindergarten teachers ,they are amazing, but that doesn’t mean they are qualified to be an administrator. That’s like seeing a medical assistant for a major surgery over a surgeon. They aren’t the same.
Pam was given a sweet heart of a deal and has been floating around for the past 8 years with different job titles. Have you spoken to employees about her roles? I have personally worked with her and she was very hands off and ignored much needed support and guidance. If you’re making six figures you should be more present in your role and she was not. This was Marie’s last ditch effort to secure her a job because she probably would have been cut under the new admin. Marie also wanted the control, that is evident.

An appointment without an interview sounds like an interim position while the district looks for a permanent replacement as principal.
