Police response to a burglar alarm at the San Miguel Shopping Center in Walnut Creek on Tuesday led to the discovery of additional break-ins at nine nearby businesses at the Countrywood Shopping Center.

Police made the initial discovery at 4:15 a.m., the current “witching hour” for similar crimes reported recently in Walnut Creek, Lamorinda and other parts of the East Bay.

According to a brief post on their social media page, Walnut Creek police detectives are actively investigating these incidents and following up on leads. They did not say if the latest burglaries were similar in method to earlier crimes, which saw crews of up to six people smash front windows or doors in order to access safes and cash registers.

  1. Looks like the Walnut Creek Police may need an extra shift in eraly mornings to patrol around! This is kind of embarrassing for them. what how many, 20 burglaries in the last month?
This and all the past burglaries does not look good for them!

  2. If they’re smashing windows to access safes and cash registers, they’re criminals. I hope they’re caught.

    • Don’t hold your breath. According to open justice.org the 2024 WCPD clearance rate for burglary was 8.6%.
