Bring the Entire Family to the Lamorinda Safety Fair and Ham Radio’s “Field Day” at the Lafayette Reservoir!

Bring the Entire Family to the Lamorinda Safety Fair and join the Lamorinda Area Radio Interest Group, Lafayette Police, Contra Costa Fire, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s office for a family-friendly “Field Day” of fun and public safety awareness at the Lafayette Reservoir on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Get on the air with local ham radio operators, see specialized fire fighting gear up close, learn to perform CPR, browse public safety exhibits – with plenty of free giveaways – and meet first responders. You will also be able to visit the Contra Costa Sheriff’s helicopter!

For radio fans, you can talk to HAM radio operators from around the world during Field Day, an annual event where 40,000 radio hobbyists set up temporary radio stations in public places to demonstrate their skills in emergency radio communications and practice for a real disaster response. The Lamorinda Area Radio Interest Group, known as LARIG, will pitch tents and erect different types of antennas to see how many radio contacts they can make with field gear, including batteries, solar panels and generators. You and the whole family can join the fun at making radio calls with a special Get-On-The-Air (GOTA) station that will be operating just for this event.

“This will be a great event for youngsters and oldsters alike and a way to explore ham radio and also see the latest in public safety gear and emergency response preparations,” said Al Archangel, LARIG’s president (pictured). “You don’t want to miss it,” he added.

Make sure to come to the Field Day public safety event at the Lafayette Reservoir on Saturday, June 22. It promises to be fun – and informative – for Lamorinda residents of all ages! The Lafayette Reservoir is located at 3849 Mt. Diablo Blvd., in Lafayette, and there will be additional parking, with free shuttle service, at the Lafayette Veterans Memorial Building, 3780 Mt.
