An odd, violent incident between drivers on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette stunned onlookers and ended with the arrest of a man in Orinda minutes later.

As recounted by multiple callers, texters, things started at 1:18 p.m. when a woman driver objected to a neighboring motorist’s ejection of a bottle from his car onto the roadway, the woman advising the man not to litter and startled moments later when the man’s car caught up to hers in front of The Roundup.

Witnesses reported seeing a man in his 50s exit a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a second person, approach the woman’s driver side window, thrust a 4″ to 5″ knife inside the compartment in proximity to her face and then verbally threaten to stab her – adding that he was additionally armed with a gun.

Witnesses gathered themselves, went to the woman’s aid and notified police, who immediately began searching for the car – setting off cameras in Moraga before it was determined to be heading to Orinda on Moraga Way.

Lamorinda police stopped the car in the 100 block of Moraga Way and removed two men inside at gunpoint. It is believed a police investigation into the incident is underway, with police weighing brandishing/assault with a deadly weapon charges against the man with the knife, in custody and identified as William B. Garrett of Lafayette.

        • It’s a thing. We also have political pundits, constitutional law experts, and people who know a lot about guns expressing their opinions.

Makes for some thrilling reading, sometimes.

  1. “when a woman driver objected to a neighboring motorist’s ejection of a bottle from his car onto the roadway”

You never know if someone is armed and/or violent. Confronting people is a dangerous endeavor.

  2. If you’re fortunate enough live in Lafayette, your standard of living will almost certainly decline if you brandish a knife in anger.

I expect these guys will get the ME time they deserve when all is said and done.

  4. Nice that the woman stood up for what was right, onlookers had her back, law enforcement found the dangerous maniac, and now that he has been exposed, will hopefully, try to amend his violent behavior. This story is a win for me
