The driver of a car allegedly attempting to elude police early Saturday morning was detained after he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole on the Sycamore Valley Road overpass in Danville.

The incident was reported at approximately 12:20 a.m., with Danville police attempting to contact the operator of a GMC on Diablo Road at southbound I-680 when the driver abruptly sped away.

An officer was attempting to catch up to the car when it crashed at the southbound Sycamore Valley Road overpass, hitting a light pole.

The 22-year-old driver was detained, an ambulance called to evaluate his injuries and California Highway Patrol officers were contacted to investigate the officer-involved pursuit and crash.
