San Ramon Theft Attempt Ends With Arrests In Walnut Creek Saturday

A carload of suspected shoplifters who allegedly stole perfume and other items from a San Ramon Ulta store were on their way out of the area when police in Walnut Creek intercepted the vehicle and took most of the crew into custody.

The incident was reported at approximately 5 p.m., with three suspects running from the store and getting into a car driven by a fourth person. The car sped away, swerving to avoid an incoming police officer, and drove north along I-680 to Walnut Creek where officers were able to identify and intercept it.

The driver of the getaway car attempted to elude officers closing in at Boulevard Way and Iris Lane, the car’s occupants getting out of the vehicle and fleeing into the surrounding neighborhood. Three were caught and detained almost immediately but a prolonged search for a fourth female suspect drew aerial and ground units to the area, neighbors questioning why they’d suddenly become the focus of police attention.

Police eventually withdrew the bulk of their officers, leaving some behind to search for the last suspect. It was not immediately known if that person was found and detained.
