A car speeding through Lafayette on Highway 24 piqued the attention of CHP officers early Saturday, drawing even more police when it left the freeway and crashed in the area of Sierra Vista and Deer Hill Road.

Calls from anxious neighbors about two men seen fleeing the non-operable car reached police, who quickly flooded the area at approximately 10 a.m.

One man was apprehended at gunpoint on Serrano Court as officers established a perimeter around the area and sent up a drone. The second man was not located as this was being written.

Police were reportedly searching the car for clues as to why its occupants may have attempted to flee officers.
