Pleasanton Police Work To Identify Body Found Near Where Philip Kreycik Went Missing

Pleasanton police Tuesday announced the discovery of a body found in the northern end of Pleasanton Ridge, in the area where runner Philip Kreycik went missing three weeks ago.

At a press conference investigators announced they could not positively identify the body, located by a volunteer searcher 250 feet off an established game trail, and have asked for assistance from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department.

The 38-year-old Berkeley man, a disciplined ultra-runner and father of two, went for a run in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park on July 10 and did not return. His car and personal items were found in the park parking lot.

Hundreds of volunteers joined police and professional Search and Rescue teams equipped with the latest equipment in a relentless subsequent search for the missing man. Planes and drones equipped with thermal imaging equipment criss-crossed the hilly terrain for days after he went missing.

Police say the investigation is still open, as they work to piece together a timeline and what happened to Kreycik that day in order to bring some form of peace of mind to Kreycik’s family.

“They deserve those answers,” Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
