Fiery Crash After Brief Police Chase In Danville Tuesday

A car taking evasive action while fleeing from police impacted with a tree on San Ramon Valley Boulevard at Town and Country Drive in Danville Tuesday.

Officers were able to extricate the driver after the car crashed and briefly burst into flame at approximately 10:40 a.m. The male driver appeared to have suffered some injuries in the crash and appeared to be unconscious as he was extricated from the wreckage.

Firefighters quickly put out the flames.

Police said the incident began on I-680 when the California Highway Patrol initiated a pursuit of a speeding vehicle. The driver, identified as Tramayne Baker, 42, Oakland, fled and exited the freeway at Sycamore Valley Road. CHP terminated the pursuit and the driver was last seen southbound on Camino Ramon.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. a Danville Police officer located the vehicle, described as 1992 purple Lexus LS400, driving north on San Ramon Valley Boulevard. A pursuit was initiated and the vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed. Danville officers terminated the pursuit when the suspect drove into the opposite lanes of traffic at Town and Country Drive, police said.  Baker then lost control of the car, struck another vehicle and struck a tree.  A pedestrian near the tree was struck by debris and suffered minor injuries.  That person was treated at the scene and released.

The suspect suffered injuries and was unconscious at the scene. He was transported to John Muir Medical Center for treatment.

Baker has been arrested for felony evading.

We’re lucky no one besides the driver was hurt or killed. This guy may well wish he was dead depending on his injuries and what charges he’s facing,

That’s not all on the tree. You need ammonium nitrate Takata air bags for that kind of finish.
