Friends and colleagues of Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputy Oscar Rocha reported that he died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at John Muir Medical Center – after a lengthy fight with COVID-19.

Rocha, a 25-year veteran of the department, was admitted to John Muir earlier this month after both he and his wife contracted the virus. She has since recovered.

Deputy Rocha was 57-years old. The Rochas made their home in Danville.

Dozens of officers and deputies from jurisdictions across two counties met at John Muir to pay their last respects.

They all matter. We all know someone like Oscar who died needlessly at an early age due to the negligence of science deniers. Some will die from disease. Many more will die prematurely from ignorance and willful indifference. RIP Kuya!
