Internet chatter of a planned protest through neighborhoods in Walnut Creek Wednesday prompted local police to request contact from protest organizers, something the organizers indicated they were not ready to do.
Billed as a noisy Twilight March details of the event remained sketchy as organizers appeared to be communicating with participants directly through social media platforms.
In a screenshot organizers posted to announce the event, a commencement time was given as 9 p.m. with other details, such as any planned route, intentions, withheld as to “avoid interference” from police.
Walnut Creek PD countered the social media campaign with one of their own, asking organizers to contact a designated officer in order to ensure “a safe event for everyone.”
The department also confirmed inconsistent Internet chatter of a “potential looting” in the city’s retail district, saying they did not know if the threat was credible or where it appears to be coming from, but they did say “we are encouraging business owners to take precautions to protect their employees and businesses.”
