Two men were detained after a wrong-way chase on Highway 24 early Sunday morning, police backing off but keeping their car in sight until it was stopped at Pleasant Hill and Deer Hill roads at 1 a.m.

The two occupants were detained at gunpoint as police converged on the area. No injuries were reported.

The incident began at around 12:40 a.m. after police spotted a car, possibly stgolen, on Deer Hill Road, following as it got onto Highway 24 and took off at speed, the driver eventually heading the wrong way on the freeway in an apparent effort to elude police.

Officers did appear to call off their pursuit when the driver drove against traffic, reacquiring the vehicle minutes later and making a traffic stop on Pleasant Hill at Deer Hill. It was not immediately known what drew police attention to the vehicle or why the driver attempted to run.

  1. I hope the driver did not emerge from the vehicle and state he/she was from the UK and was on the “right” side of the roadway…

    • Don’t believe that tact was adopted! Believe now the car was stolen – which the police seem to disapprove of!
