Poet’s Corner Residents Say They Beat Back Daylight Kick-In Robbery In Pleasant Hill Tuesday

NOTE: Accompanying video of previous, recent daylight burglary attempt in Pleasanton

Occupants of a Poet’s Corner home in Pleasant Hill say they received an abrupt and meaningful lesson in the breadth of local crime Tuesday when their front door was kicked in and they were rushed by four men who stole unspecified items before they were able to drive them out.

One of the two homeowners present at the time later wrote: “Yesterday morning right after both kids drove away separately for school, a hooded man came and knocked on our front door. When no one answered he walked away and 30 seconds later a car pulled up in front of our home.  Four masked men kicked in our front door and rushed in to our home. My husband and I were both home, so we scared them away fairly quickly, but they were able to get away with some of our property.  The police said these guys are going around Concord, Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill, so be aware and be safe!!”

So-called “Knock Knock” or “Kick-in” burglaries are a fairly common occurrence these days, with some neighborhoods bearing the brunt of the assaults over others. Many have been reported here in recent months.

Several of the crimes appear to have been conducted by roving crews of thieves who cruise local neighborhoods looking for an appropriate home to attack, sending a member of the crew to the front door or around back to gain entry – then entering and burglarizing the home en masse.

While we were unable to confirm specific details of the incident with Pleasant Hill police, it did seem unusual to us that in this case the thieves appeared resolute enough to press their attack even when confronted by the residents.

The incident was reported at a home on Poshard Street in Poets Corner.

  1. If these losers want to join my family for breakfast, I’ll make them a piping hot buckshot scramble … delivered fast!

The dog will enjoy the “leftovers.”

  2. “right after both kids drove away separately for school” … wondering if maybe they thought the kids were the owners???? Tells us these guys are on the street and watching us come and go.

    • I would guess they thought the kids were kids, and the parents were on their way to work. Teenagers usually look like teenagers, and parents usually leave for work earlier than kids leave for school.

Door armor (easy to install) or security screen doors to prevent kick-in burglaries.

  3. Same subjects tried it a little earlier on Rogers Ave. a few blocks away. At least one of the subjects appears to be a 20 something Hispanic male. I saw a Ring photo from the Rogers Ave incident. Subjects were in same vehicle in both incidents. Silver older model Pathfinder.

      • Just read on Nextdoor same subjects attempted same the day prior (Monday). Occurred at 7am on Hoover Ct. in Pleasant Hill. Man opened door and suspect claimed to be looking for lost dog, same as Rogers Ave incident. Vehicles were older silver Pathfinder and older black Honda Civic with paper plates.

With no local news reporting local crime anymore or only way of learning what’s going on is you guys, Claycord and Nextdoor.
        Thank you news24-680

  4. Watching his attempt to kick in the door made me wonder if these animals know about tools. Some animals use tools. Saw it on the Discovery channel I think.

  5. I don’t know about everyone else but I’m getting really tired with all this. Anyone willing to break down my front door better be ready to pay the consequences. Im not trying to be tough – but if you’re coming in and I’m home, they’ll be carrying you out.

    • Im getting really tired of this too! The crooks are emboldened now and no longer afraid of any consequences, as there are not many these days here in uber-tolerant California. The only thing that might deter them is if they started getting peppered with buckshot, or got beat within an inch of their life.

  6. He breaks the door on his 6th attempt in the video…thereby loudly announcing his intent and giving the home owner time to prepare a whole range of responses. Clueless. It’s not always going to end so well for him.

  7. Hey there! I find numerous postings about an arrest made of two of the suspected Perps, but NOTHING else. Who was arrested? Where were they arrested? What were the circumstances involving their arrests? Booking Photos? Are they already released from custody – due to lack of evidence? Or released bc crime less than $950 and then it’s okay?!? What happened?!? There is no information anywhere. What say you???

    • All pertinent questions, Shelly, but as Pleasant Hill and other agencies have said repeatedly they are being deliberately circumspect in their handling of these cases because of their brazen nature, the mobile nature of the thieves, and because other suspects remain at large and are being sought. We would like a full and complete accounting of the status of these and other crimes, of course, but the police have their protocols.
