We’ve said it before, it’s getting tougher out there on our local highways and byways.

San Ramon Police Capt. Denton Carlson was kind enough to fill us in on an incident that captured attention on the Montevideo/I680 overpass in San Ramon this evening and while it was still unpleasant for the victim in this instance, it wasn’t quite as bad as first thought.

Apparently one driver objected to the driving technique of another at that location at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, opting to make his displeasure known by approaching the victim’s car and battering it with a hammer.

This may sound bad enough, particularly if you’re inside your car when someone is outside taking a hammer to it, but police acknowledged that initial calls for assistance said the Road Rager was wielding a sledge hammer.

Not so, but he still did some damage, according to police, breaking a couple of car windows and perplexing his victim, not to mention leaving him with a fairly hefty repair bill. The driver on the receiving end was not injured.

Capt. Carlson said that the alleged offender’s license plate was noted and that police are following up.

  1. You could have a steam train
If you’d just lay down your tracks
You could have an aeroplane flying
If you bring your blue sky back
All you do is call me
    I’ll be anything you need
You could have a big dipper
Going up and down, all around the bends
You could have a bumper car, bumping
    This amusement never ends
I want to be your sledgehammer
Why don’t you call my name
Oh let me be your sledgehammer
    This will be my testimony
Show me round your fruit cakes
‘Cause I will be your honey bee
    Open up your fruit cakes
Where the fruit is as sweet as can be
I want to be your sledgehammer
Why don’t you call my name
    You’d better call the sledgehammer
    Put your mind at rest
    I’m going to be-the sledgehammer
    This can be my testimony
    I’m your sledgehammer
    Let there…
