We’ve been writing about Lone Wolf burglars and organized crews of car burglars wreaking havoc in various neighborhoods throughout the 24/680 of late, and Moraga – despite its away from the highways geography – appears to be getting the same treatment.

We Flashed word of a number of overnight thefts from cars along Ascot and Donald drive earlier in the week but today, Thursday, Moraga PD released the following:

Moraga Police officers have responded to a number of auto burglaries and thefts from unlocked autos in the recent past.  Most of these are occurring at night when the vehicles are parked in residential areas.  It appears the suspects are walking around neighborhoods at night and committing crimes of opportunity.  While Moraga is still a very safe place to live and work, we do have crime and need to work together to solve and prevent it.

We need your help to remove the opportunity for people to commit crimes by doing the following:

** If possible, park your car in a well lit area.
** Close and lock car doors and windows when parking your car.
** Don’t leave valuables or something that looks valuable unattended in your car.  Remember, you know that your gym bag only contains dirty clothes, but a burglar might think your watch or wallet is inside.
** Report suspicious activity in your neighborhood.  As a person who lives in the neighborhood, you will often recognize suspicious activity before anyone else and are our best resource.
** Consider installing alarms and a video surveillance system to focus upon the front of your house and the location when you park.
** If you are a crime victim, please contact our Dispatch Center at 925-284-5010 and report the incident.

Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility and together we can continue to make Moraga one of California’s safest cities.
