Police are investigating the discovery of a body found in the open space near the popular walking/biking trail on Olympic Boulevard Thursday morning.
Police confirmed they received a report of a deceased person in the area of Olympic and Pleasant Hill Road, north of the East Bay Regional Parks District trail and approximately 50 yards west of the staging area.
Police said arriving officers confirmed the discovery and believe the person, a girl in her teens, died in an apparent suicide.

Thank you for the coverage today. Definitely our go to for local news around these parts.
Yes. We were in the area at the time of the discovery and wondered what was happening when we received you alert. It explained a lot of things. Your silence afterward also explains a lot. Our hopes and prayers are with the family of this young person. I cannot think of any worse pain.
There is no worse pain… that was my niece… this is the second child my sister has had to give to God… thank you
Appreciate the sensity you showed while covering this story!!!!
I am so sorry Audra, we lost my nephew to suicide in Jan 2013 at the age of 15, also in Lafayette.
How do we know it’s a suicide and not a lynching? Concerned.
No evidence to suggest this was anything other than a suicide, Kim.
For a family to have now suffered 2 losses has to be devastating! I pray for their strength to endure such a tragedy.
