Plane Crashes Into Delta Waters Near Antioch Sunday; Recovery Operation Mounted For Lone Pilot

First responders answered a call of a small plane down at the northern end of Broad Slough at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday, finding some wreckage and personal effects but no trace of the pilot.

East County Fire units responded to the Antioch Marina where fire boats were dispatched across the Delta to Broad Slough, west of Kimball Island.

EastCountyToday reported that the crew of Rescue Boat 81 located a backpack, ID, flight map, and the tail number of a small aircraft leased earlier from Buchanan airfield. The body of the pilot was not recovered, and his or her name was not released by investigators.

Per Contra Costa County Fire, the plane was rented out of Buchanan Airfield in Concord around 3:00 pm and the pilot was the only occupant. Ongoing recovery operations are being conducted by Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
