As you might expect, we get a ton of “What’s going on at XYZ?”-type questions in the course of the day here at NEWS24/680. Yesterday was no exception – with readers Melanie, Robert and Jan asking about police activity on Sycamore Valley Rd. near I680.

We put their queries to Town SpokesPro Geoff Gillette and Police Chief Allan Shields and here’s what they told us:

On January 22, 2019 at approximately 2:15pm, officers responded to the area of Camino Ramon and Fostoria Circle after receiving an alert through the town-wide ALPR system of a stolen 2005 Honda Accord.  The Accord was reported stolen out of Hayward on January 21, 2019.  Officers then located the vehicle on Sycamore Valley Rd near I-680 and effected a traffic stop.  Both driver and passenger were arrested on the following charges:

Driver:    Mirion Straley, 48, Oakland
Conspiracy to commit vehicle theft, possession identity documents of another, probation violation, and an outstanding warrant.

Passenger:  Angelica Munoz, 41, San Jose
Conspiracy to commit vehicle theft, possession of identity documents of another

Both were booked into MDF – (Ed. That’s the Martinez Detention Facility, aka, the old Grey Bar Hotel).

Appreciate the contact and follow up from these gentleman and, of course, the hard work of the “troops” out there on the street.  So, Melanie, Jan, and Robert – that’s what you were seeing!

  1. I appreciate this type of reporting, but I don’t think police logs are “worthless.” I miss the police logs on this site. It told you the crime, the date and the street. The media can’t report on every crime in town. Too bad people complained about the police logs. I’d post them anyway…
