Police Pursue Suspect Vehicle From El Sobrante Into Lafayette Wednesday

Lamorinda police and neighboring agencies are currently tracking a vehicle which fled from police on San Pablo Dam Road, drove east in the westbound lanes of Highway 24 through Orinda and is now on Sessions Road in Lafayette.

A helicopter, believed to be a sheriff’s aircraft, is orbiting the area of Sessions Road and Northridge. There is a heavy police presence in that area. Motorists are advised to stay clear of the area if possible.

Lafayette Police Chief Ben Alldritt confirmed that the pursuit originated in El Sobrante when sheriff’s deputies fell in behind the car and ended when the suspect abandoned the vehicle on Sessions Road near Northridge Lane. The suspect fled into the Briones Regional Park area, Alldritt said.

He described the suspect as a white male with brown hair and asked that if residents see anything suspicious in that area to call 911 or the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at (925) 284-5010.

At this point we are not aware what triggered the pursuit, but the driver’s subsequent actions definitely attracted the attention of police. Police sources suggested that the operator of the fleeing car was “known to police.”

Residents living on Sessions say police have advised them to stay indoors. This site has been unable to confirm a report that the individual may be armed.

Police tracking teams are in the area.

UPDATE/9:25 p.m: Residents advise us that the suspect’s car has been located, apparently abandoned. Police are looking for a white male, about 180 pounds, with facial hair. As of this writing he has not been located.

UPDATE/7:33 a.m. Thursday: Callers have alerted us to the arrest of a man adjacent to the onramp to Highway 24 at Pleasant Hill this morning. The subject was taken into custody at gunpoint. We’ll have more on this development when conditions warrant.

UPDATE/9:00 a.m. Thursday: Gentleman arrested on Pleasant Hill onramp to Highway 24 this morning was a shoplifting suspect, according to LPD. Our thanks to Chief Ben Alldritt for clearing that one up for us so quickly this morning!

Is it the same guy? It’s the right area? That means he was there all night? Holy crap!!

    • NEWS24-680 on Jun 7, 2018 at 8:20 am

No ironclad confirmation, yet, Pat – but we’re asking. In the right area and in keeping with our belief that a lot of these guys hunker down somewhere in the primary search area and wait for the search to pass over them. It would mean, if it is him, that he was there through the night, yes. We shall see!
