Danville Lays Down The Law To E-Bike Speedsters
Tired of being buzzed, bowled-over and berated by at-times aggressive youths on speedy e-bikes Danville residents pressed town leaders to clamp down on the youthful riders.
The Town Council obliged by banning e-bikes, e-motorcycles and motorized scooters from being ridden within town parks (they’ll have to be walked by their riders) and by imposing a 15mph speed limit on e-riders on town-owned trails.
Those measures passed by unanimous vote Tuesday and, although we’ve yet to hear of reaction from the e-bike set, enforcement is expected to begin in early August.
Danville joins a growing list of Bay Area communities taking action against youthful riders who favor the speed and mobility of the vehicles – despite an accompanying sharp spike in injuries and even deaths related to their use.
While many in the council chambers agreed the ban was a major step forward, others expressed concern over exactly how the new ordinances would be enforced.
