Standoff In Concord Saturday

Scene outside a Concord neighborhood Saturday.

Photos coming in from the scene of a police standoff in Concord tonight, Saturday. Neighbors reported a sizable police presence in the 4400 block of Buckthorn Court with a man, believed to be armed, barricaded inside a residence and refusing to come out.

Lots of police on hand and the neighbors reportedly remained calm (differing reports on the precise level of calm, as usual) but have been advised to stay indoors.

Concord PD put this out the following day:
On April 11, 2026, at approximately 6:52 p.m., Concord Police Department Dispatch received a report of a crime involving a firearm in the residential neighborhood of Buckthorn Court. Out of an abundance of caution, a shelter in place was issued for residents in the immediate area. As the investigation progressed, it was determined there was no longer an immediate threat to the public and the shelter in place was lifted. The incident remains under investigation.

It must me tough to be in LEO management in current California. Living in the internet world with people demanding instant information,
an overly critical liberal electorate demanding “justice” and just a reasonable expectation for timely updates. The mom in
Walnut Creek crushed the demands for “accountability” with her understanding of her sons issues.

We would counter your sentiment (as you might expect) by saying that civic agencies and police are making formerly public information more and more difficult to access. As you’re former law enforcement, we would also expect you to express concern for harried police chiefs fending off inquiries and “demands for justice” from “an overly critical liberal electorate.”

We would argue that that is precisely their job, and that they have the staff to help them do that. Saturday night, an entire neighborhood was locked down and sealed off by an armed police presence, sparking a number of requests for information other than “stay indoors.” We were able to do that to a degree, but the lack of official response to such a major incident was telling and demands more of an explanation than “the incident is under investigation.”

Yes, residents of a neighborhood should get information as soon as it is practical, their lives are being disrupted.
