Danville Standoff Shuts Down Neighborhood, Local School Tuesday
We started fielding calls from anxious parents and neighbors at about 3:20pm Tuesday after a barricaded subject call in Danville turned into a full-on standoff with SWAT teams, an armored car, drones and lots more police in the area of Camino Ramon and San Thomas Way.
Camino Ramon was closed to through traffic as negotiations with a man reportedly armed and unwilling to leave the residence commenced in earnest, neighbors watching as more and more police and gear rolled into the area. A local school invoked its lockdown protocol during the negotiations, which lasted a couple of hours.
Neighbors reported seeing a man exiting the home and being taken into custody. We’ve had no official confirmation of the arrest or what, if any, charges may be brought as a result of the action.
Multiple jurisdictions were involved in this action but so far NONE of them have advised us of their part in the incident.
We are not aware of any injuries relative to this action but will update this story should that information change.

When did the police and fire department stop issuing releases on major incidents? Is this normal?
It’s almost as if they’re normalizing the presence of heavily armed troops or police on the streets — and then not saying anything about it.
I would hope Danville leadership has a good long conversation over expected reporting times on situations of this degree. More than 24 hours without any report is unacceptable.

If anyone knows these answers, I’m curious…
Does DPD and/or CoCo SO have a public relations officer who is in charge of release of info? Do you have to be a big city like Oakland or SF to justify the need for that position, and it’s salary?
If a situation like yesterday arises where fire/EMS are called for a medical emergency, are the agencies then forced to zip their lips because we’ve crossed into medical privacy areas?
Often I get news from this site and the Flash Alerts, then I go to the PD social media pages for more details. Most of the content there is just fluff. Cops handing out stickers to little kids. Cute. Joke-reel set to music of how they stopped another shoplifter at Target. Funny? At times.
Why not use those pages for real time info on the big stuff?
Jillian – thanks for reaching out. Yes. Longtime readers know we’ve been battling this information gap for some time now. In short, we reached out to the PIOs representing those agencies we knew were on scene yesterday and those who answered up today referred us to others. We’ve still not had an explanation for what transpired.
Area police also cut off public access to their radio channels recently after decades of public use. Though some rationale was provided by the deciding agency beforehand, we believe the decision was largely arbitrary and needn’t have been as sweeping as it is.
All in all, as witnessed yesterday, information normally available to the public appears to be drying up (IOHO).
Thank you for keeping us all informed. I recall your prior warnings about how this abrupt cutting off of info to the public would play out, but each instance of it ringing true frustrates me all over again.

The transparency here has been blinding. The town should be ashamed of itself for keeping its citizens in the dark during this incident. Thankfully this site had the judgment and good sense to confirm what we were all seeing that day.
