Alleged Shoplifter Leaves Trail Of Debris, Angry Motorists After Sprint Into Walnut Creek Thursday

A suspected shoplifter fleeing police in a Toyota van allegedly struck several vehicles before attempting to exit I-680 at Ygnacio Valley and crashing at high speed near the Walnut Creek BART station.

Witnesses in the area at the time said the van appeared to be “pushing 100 mph” when it crashed at Ygnacio and Oakland Boulevard at approximately 10:59 a.m.

The unidentified suspect allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot but was quickly confronted by police and taken into custody at gunpoint.

Police were still (11:29 a.m.) at the scene trying to interview victims and witnesses as this was written.

    Hit at least 2 other cars that I saw and if she wasn’t doing 100 she was pretty close. Was she going to a crime or running from one???
