A 56-year-old woman severely injured when she was struck on the head by a falling tree limb at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course Saturday morning has died of her injuries, according to police.

The incident was reported at approximately 10:50 a.m. on the 7th hole of the golf course, the woman’s husband reporting that his wife had been struck by a falling tree and knocked unconscious.

Officials said the tree uprooted in soggy soil and fell as the couple were walking past. Life-saving measures were undertaken almost immediately after it became apparent the woman was in distress, witnesses said.

The victim was taken to Β San Ramon Regional Medical center where she later died of her injuries.

No one else was injured when the tree toppled to the ground.
