On Thursday, December 18, 2025, at about 10:36 PM, Lafayette police attempted to make an enforcement stop for traffic violations.

The vehicle did not yield and led officers on a pursuit that went from downtown Lafayette to eastbound Highway 24 and then southbound 680.

The suspect vehicle exited on Livorna Road, traveled eastbound, entering the Stonegate neighborhood. The suspect fled on foot as his vehicle became disabled after it crashed into a fence. A Danville police officer using a drone was able to locate the suspect hiding in a yard. The suspect was arrested. (Information that the suspect sustained a bite wound from a police dog was not immediately confirmed).

He is identified as 38-year-old Benjamin Ashburn of San Francisco. Ashburn was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges that include felony evading, resisting arrest, and probation violation. He is being held without bail. No other suspects are outstanding.

    • Yeah, but is he gonna suit the police and collect for pain. suffering and trauma caused by their dog? In our upside down criminal justice system he’ll probably walk away with money and be free to try to do other crimes.

      • Please tell us about all the other made-up-in-your-head times that has happened so we can do something about it!

  1. Taking notes.
More cruelty and pain. Putting that on my Christmas list right now because that’s what Jesus would do if he had an attack dog.

  2. Please include an example to support your comment. I have never heard of a perp getting compensated for injuries from a properly deployed police dog.

    • Oh, you must be new here. Greg T regularly deposits that type of assertion in every post about someone being arrested. You would be led to conclude that everyone ever arrested becomes a millionaire with taxpayer money.

  3. Cruelty and pain?
Let’s count the ways he is innocent and mistreated:
    1. Already convicted of a crime
    2. On probation for that crime
    3. Violating traffic laws and putting other people at risk
    4. Fleeing from the police, again putting other people and the pursuing officers at risk
    5. Crashed a car, damaging property
    6. Trespassing on someone else’s property to hide
    7. Resisting arrest

Law enforcement had to send multiple cars, officers, a drone, and a K-9 unit, which the rest of us had to pay for. Luckily he didn’t hit anyone, threaten the homeowner, or take a hostage. Luckily he wasn’t shot, tased, maced, or pepper-sprayed.

I don’t know his criminal history, if it’s drugs, property theft, sexual assault, or violent crime. We do know that he has been given at least one chance already – he was on probation.

Looking at that, he’s lucky that all he got was a dog bite. He’s not out on bail yet, thank goodness.

    • Misdirection.
No human being is “a chew toy” as some of you would have it. Have you seen what a dog attack can do, not “a dog bite”, but a malicious, improper attack from law enforcement? Some of us are reacting to the braggadocio and cliche comments that started the stream. Just so you know, liberals don’t love the criminals, and police aren’t prosecuted for doing their job.

  4. 24/680 comments section never fails in it’s predictability. Jeff with his tough guy clown act. Greg T with his fear mongering and victim mentality. The insufferable campo cougar bragging about their money and wealthy neighborhood. And David with his well written, thoughtful responses to the trolls. The consistency is astounding.
