Some Lamorinda burglary victims are just finding out they were victimized by burglars/thieves as area police sort through items taken by different suspects in unrelated incidents in Orinda and Lafayette Wednesday morning.

Lafayette police responded to a report of a man aboard a mountain bike absconding with a purse inside a car at Moraga Boulevard and Carol Lane – the victim turning to technology and tracking her purse as the alleged thief rode off.

Police closed in and eventually detained a man in the 3300 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard, although his connection to the case was not known. Police reportedly eventually recovered the victim’s belongings.

Almost simultaneously, a homeowner on Northwood Court in Orinda woke in time to see a man fleeing from her home with an armload of electronics, leaving her home on foot.

Orinda police and adjacent agencies were notified of the theft and an officer stopped a man carrying the stolen gear on the platform at Orinda BART. Electronics and cash taken from the home on Northwood Court and another on Davis Road were recovered, with the first victim identifying the suspect and the second advised they had been victimized.

  1. In the 50th anniversary year of the first moon landing…by humans…I would just like to point out that if you were standing on a BART platform in 1975 (6 years post moon walk) carrying stolen “electronics” you would have stood out, so to speak, stooped over as you would have been. Now you can carry it through the turnstiles. No forklift required. Just that sheepish guilty look on your face to give you away.
