Hit-And-Run Crash At Walnut Creek Farmers Market; At Least One Injured, One Arrested

SHARE

The investigation into a devastating early morning hit-and-run crash during vendor setup at the Walnut Creek Farmer’s Market Sunday is underway.

The crash was reported at approximately 5:15 a.m. Sunday with first responders arriving to find two people down, one with critical injuries, and obvious damage to the vendor area.

Police were quickly alerted that a black Ford Explorer was responsible for the crash and an officer pulled a car matching that description over on Buskirk Avenue, noting front-end damage to the car and detaining two men aboard.

Police were seen administering a Field Sobriety Test to a man later identified as Jose Chavez, 34, and he was taken into custody. Booking information for Chavez shows he was arrested a little after 7 a.m. and is currently being held in lieu of $300,000 bond.

A second man was also detained but his custody status remain unknown.

The popular Farmer’s Market is closed for today, of course.

  1. That’s terrible, those poor people. How do you not stop? Ford dealership is right there. Lack of a plate and pristine condition of the vehicle is suspicious.

  2. Interesting that the Walnut Creek alert system work quite well in spreading the news to the community. It was also buzzing with the traffic conditions on YVR due to wine festival.

  3. So, you miss the bravado, the self-aggrandizing, and the delusional posts about how “I alone can fix it!” Did I mention the professed relish for violent outcomes? Well, apparently “fixing it” requires a boatload of violence for people inhabiting that special mental state of mind. How can you miss a vigilante caricature so easily replaced or forgotten when there are real officers of the law working this case?

    • David,

My how naive you are. With the current crop of local DA’s and media, law enforcement would rather do nothing for the local populace, the example of the three Alameda officers being the most egregious. I on the other hand am now above the law because of my medical condition and I am better trained.

      • Precisely! Because of the freedom that your medical condition affords you, your unique training, and the pristine nature of your moral objectives, you alone can help us better than anyone else in uniform.

Get some professional counseling. Use your time well. You are not seeing this clearly.

        • It is you who need the help, your denial of societal problems in the name of social justice has warped any grain of common sense you ever processed.

Just two weeks ago I made an arrest in a liquor store in El Cerrito, the individual was physically threatening the clerk. I could do this in today’s world because I have no fear of criminal or civil liability and no concerns about my personal safety.

Time for you to grow up David .

  4. Do you know of any opportunity to support the victims in this. I appreciate very much what they bring to us…even though this is not the farmers’ market I frequent.

    • Thanks, David. Very kind. For the record we have had about 50 folks offer assistance but we are told the families are merely seeking prayerful help at this time. We’ll be sure to put something up should that change.

    • Hey, Claudia, we have second-hand information that the two women remain in critical condition with their families asking for privacy and prayerful offerings. Rather oddly, at least in our view, there has been no substantive info release on the suspect or any explanation of how the crash occurred.

      • 24/680,

It’s the current government model of “it never happened”. In Chicago, they are going to stop reporting crime statistics to the public or the FBI.

      • Why do you think there has been no information released. They did catch the guys according to the original story?

        • We know. We were there. We’ve had no information relative to the condition of the injured, the status of the man arrested, or how the crash transpired since we ran our story the day it happened.
