Letter: Danville Addresses E-Bike Issue

Editor;

After nearly two years of growing complaints, near-misses, and serious concerns from residents, the Danville Town Council has taken an important step toward making our parks and trails safer.

On June 16th, before an overflow crowd of more than 100 residents, the Council voted unanimously to advance an ordinance addressing the use of e-bikes and bicycles in Town-managed parks and on Town-managed trails.

Under the proposed ordinance, e-bikes would be prohibited from being ridden in Town parks. Riders would still be allowed to dismount and walk their e-bikes through parks. The ordinance would also establish a 15-mph speed limit on Town-managed trails.

The 5-0 vote approved the first reading of the ordinance. A second and final reading is expected at the Council’s next meeting on Tuesday, July 7, at 5:00 p.m. If approved, the rules would take effect in August.

Please attend the July 7th Town Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 7, at 5:00 p.m., when the Council is expected to vote on final approval of the new e-bike ordinance.

This is an important meeting for everyone who cares about pedestrian safety in Danville’s parks and on Town-managed trails. For more information visit Bikedanville.org
