Suspect Who Snatched Watch Near Orinda BART Detained At Walnut Creek Station Wednesday

A suspect who allegedly stole an Apple Watch from a woman walking near Orinda BART on Wednesday was tracked and detained at the Walnut Creek BART station soon after.

Details remain sketchy as the suspect has only just been detained, reportedly by sheriff’s deputies and members of other agencies. The incident was reported at approximately 12:30 p.m. with the victim reporting she was confronted on a walking trail near Orinda BART, the suspect taking the watch and running toward the station.

An ambulance was summoned and the victim examined for injury.

Police searched trains leaving for adjacent stations and reportedly located the suspect at Walnut Creek BART, where he was taken into custody.

    I wonder if he also evaded paying his fare?
    A security presence really is needed at all entrances to the BART system just as it is in many buildings or other public spaces.
    When will BART ever figure this out?

      It’ll never happen. I’ve been a BART commuter for 40+ yrs and see the evaders pretty much daily. Can’t wait for retirement end of this year so I don’t have to watch the s show anymore.

        Soon they’ll have the big new fare gates at every station instead of the old turnstiles; that seems to be making a difference at the stations they have already been installed at. Better late than never…
