Purse-Snatch Reported At Orinda BART Friday
One person was detained and another was being sought (1:17pm) after two youths robbed a woman of her purse at Orinda BART on Friday.
The incident was reported shortly after 1 p.m. with two youths, described as black males, approaching the woman and taking her purse before running off.
Orinda PD stopped and detained one potential suspect on Santa Maria Way and a police search was mounted for the second suspect (black male teen, bright green hoodie with white letters, backpack).
Various police air and ground units were on scene and searching for the second individual.
There was no immediate word on if the victim was injured during the theft.

I work in the area and you would think they might want to alert all the businesses to be on the look out. You are the only news place that I heard about this. Although the helicopter was flying very low and the police station is near by.
I hope they caught up with the second suspect. And I pray that the woman whose purse they stole is okay.

It’d be interesting to know if the two thieves paid their fare to get on BART, or just jump the gate? A lot of the trouble that’s been happening on BART is due to people that are riding free. Bart keeps saying they’re going to stop that but they aren’t doing anything yet.
Unknown at this time if the pair entered the area on foot, by car, or by BART.
If they steal Orinda ladies purses they should at least have the decency to pay the BART fare with their plunder.

About ten times a month now, on average.
I haven’t trusted BART for more than 25 years. I avoid it.
What a shame. I just got back from Spain and the train system there worked really well. I just kept thinking about what a disappointment Bart is for us. They need to immediately change ALL the gates. We never saw one person jump the gate because they are meant to stop you from doing it. Also NO unhoused people on the trains at all. Clean system and no unhinged folks lurking around. Felt safe riding the metro and the train. What is wrong with us???
