Five people – three of them juveniles – died in a head-on collision on westbound SR4 just west of Loveridge Road in Pittsburg early Thursday, one of the two cars involved in the crash bursting into flame after the impact.

The crash was reported just after midnight, California Highway Patrol officers finding four people in one car, a lone occupant and driver in the other.

Investigators said the CHP Contra Costa office was advised of a wrong way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR-4 near Railroad Avenue shortly after midnight. The wrong way vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, continued east in the westbound lanes and collided head on into a Ford Flex traveling in the westbound lanes of SR-4, west of Loveridge Road. Both vehicles sustained major damage and came to rest within the westbound lanes.

All victims died at the scene, according to CHP. The agency added that it is not yet clear if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The westbound lanes of Highway 4 were closed for hours after the crash to facilitate the investigation into the crash.

The dead were identified as:
Lasaundra Goode, 44, Vacaville
Tiara Tucker, 27, Vallejo
Mariah Mihailovic, 5, Vallejo
Keilani Johnson-Ochoa, 4, Vallejo
