Mystery Gunfire Awakens A Quiet Lafayette Neighborhood Friday

SHARE

Neighborhood surveillance video captured one of an estimated three volleys of shots fired in a normally sleepy part of Lafayette early Friday morning.

The gunfire woke neighbors, naturally, and drew police – who were apparently unable to pinpoint the source of the gunfire. There were no reports of injuries.

The shots, fired at regular intervals, were reported at around 3:30 a.m. in the area of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Acalanes Road. Police searched neighboring tracts for more than an hour, including a section of Glorietta Boulevard, using an aerial drone and officers from adjacent jurisdictions who patrolled the area by car and on foot.

Neighbors said they have heard similar gunfire in the area in recent weeks and this site has been hearing from neighbors in the area who have reported gunfire/”booms”/fireworks or explosions on various nights for almost two years.

  1. Most people can’t tell the difference between gunshots or fireworks. If it was gunshots, 3:30 a.m. in Lafayette seems rather odd.

    • The same thing occurred in the same area (within 1/2 mile from where I live) at the same time of morning about six weeks ago. I’ve lived in some of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles where gunfire and police helicopters are a nightly occurrence, and what I heard six weeks ago were definitely gunshots. After the third series of shots, I reported it to the police. They already knew about it.

  2. Firing a gun after dark even where its legal to discharge a gun is actually not legal. Within town limits it’s definitely not legal.
