Editor’s Note: We apologize to those of you who had difficulty accessing the earliest versions of this story, quite a number of people were attempting to do the same thing at the same time.
Local police descended on Pleasant Hill Elementary School, 2097 Oak Park Boulevard, in response to reports of a man walking in the area firing an AK-47-type weapon Monday evening.
Officers were dispatched to a residence not far from the school after the suspect was seen with the weapon at around 6:20 p.m., observing him driving a truck away from the scene.
Police were attempting to conduct a traffic stop when the man allegedly opened fire on the officers, hitting no one, and then drove off at high speed with officers in pursuit to the rear of Pleasant Hill Elementary school where police say he attempted suicide with the firearm.
The unidentified suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. No police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident, though several people on school grounds at the time told this site they heard gunfire and sought cover as police moved in.
Well that was something. Glad no innocents were hurt.
Insane. What touched him of???
my guess is a drug deal gone sour.
Nice call on that second shoooter siting. Never seen a news channel do that before.
Lots of 5-0
Did he make it?
Had to be super scary
Who was the second guy with the gun?
Believe it was a possible civilian volunteer who had armed himself.
Rading your flash alerts from yesterday is like reading a Tom Clancy book.
