A police pursuit in Lafayette Saturday night ended when the suspect vehicle – a BMW with paper plates – briefly evaded officers before crashing on Acalanes Road under Highway 24.

At least two suspects were removed from the wrecked car, last seen by officers at speeds in excess of 85 mph. One was removed by officers at gunpoint, another required extrication by firefighters.

Further confusing a busy night in the 24/680 was an unrelated, multi-car crash on southbound I680 south of Olympic Boulevard. Emergency crews were still assessing motorists involved in that crash, which was reported at the same time as the pursuit-related impact on Acalanes Road, at 6:45 p.m.

California Highway Patrol officers called for a SigAlert while clearing wreckage from all but the slow lane of southbound I680. There were reports of multiple injuries at the scene but no specific information as those motorists were either still being assessed or were on their way to local hospitals.

    • Morning, RIF… you’re in our heads. We wanted to pursue this one today and we’re reaching out but some folks have taken the day off and it may have to simmer another day. We can say the folks in the car were suspected of perpetrating “multiple” burglaries (specific area of operations unknown) and the car they were in was the object of police interest so we BELIEVE it was either observed while cruising Lafayette or it was stolen and tripped an ALPR device.

    • Hi, RIF – just posted a bit more information on this incident supplied by LPD Chief Benjamin Alldritt. It’s currently topping our site. And, according to the Chief, one of the car’s two occupants was/is suspected of being a prolific car burglar.
